The brief for House in Silhouette was for a large family home on a sloping 1.6 acre site in Berwick. As Melbourne’s suburbs have grown outward, Berwick now sits on the edge of the city. Not rural, yet not suburban, the subject site is a low density lot, suitable for an equestrian enthusiast or a hobby farmer.

Ventilation and brightness: The ground floor, where the locker rooms are located, is a more opaque and intimate block. Direct sunlight which may be a source of glare is avoided in the table tennis room and in the gym room.
On the 2nd floor (as in the next floor level after Ground floor level), the façade is made of perforated sheet metal and has two usages. It provides passive protection from direct sunlight and ensures thermal comfort through natural ventilation. The almost constant temperature of the sports hall, the true “lung of the project”, makes air conditioning useless, even when the temperatures reach 35 ° outside.

New York firm Weiss Manfredi has revealed plans to update Edward Durell Stone’s modernist US embassy in New Delhi, India, as part of a major overhaul of the complex. Commissioned by the US Department of State, Weiss Manfredi’s masterplan is intended to transform the United States Embassy in the city’s Chanakyapuri neighbourhood into a “multi-functional campus”.

Snøhetta designs Italian mountaintop museum for Ötzi the Iceman

Snøhetta has released visuals of a Museum Quarter in the mountains of Bolzano, which will have a projecting stepped roof that doubles as a viewpoint. If built the museum would have exhibition space for the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology and the Municipal Museum of Bolzano, and would house the famous prehistoric mummy of Ötzi the Iceman.

The Eaves House renovation aimed to adequate a pre-owned family house in a traditional neighborhood of São Paulo to the reality of their grandson’s newly formed family. Thus, the project needed to be flexible to predict its growth and changes throughout the time. There was also a desire to privilege intimate spaces for family time besides social spaces to gather friends for meals or cocktails.
