This building is a 4-story residential building of 35 years in a townhouse community. The idea of “flow” enables human use and natural feeling, as the diversified and flowing space improves communication and information exchange, facilitating mood switches for work or use scenarios. The large open windows bring in the light, while trees reduce heat. The skylight enables a vertical and free flow of light for different settings and views. July 22, 2022 Collin Chen 0

Dahei New Village is located in Xiyang Township, Jinning County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province in China. Most local villagers are Yi minority. The vernacular buildings there are mainly built by earth and some are in disrepair recently. One University One Village (1U1V) team has carried out a series of rammed earth building renovation projects and developed a set of innovative rammed earth building strategies which are well recognized to suit the local needs. Gongfang (community hall) is a multi-purpose activity hall that the villagers use to hold events such as weddings, funerals, and festivals. However, the former community hall was too old to use and has safety risks. 1U1V team obtained an agreement with the township government to rebuild it by using innovative anti-seismic rammed earth construction technology in order to provide a more safe, comfortable, functional, and artistic space for the villagers.

Disappeared architecture. In the summer garden, the plants are in a more natural and wild state, and the original clear boundaries fade away, with plants staggering in height, creating an experience from enclosure to seclusion and then to openness. The teahouse is located at the eastern end of the garden. Walking along the stone-paved path is like a natural exploration of the garden, and the outline of the teahouse emerges from the staggered trees.

July 19, 2022 Collin Chen 0

The Q-factor store is located at No. 1, Lane 34, Xiangyang North Road, Jing’an District, Shanghai. The project along the street is part of a historically protected red-brick building. In consideration to protect this historic building, we were cautious when thinking about the project. There are a few considerations to think about. First, the architect’s goal is to protect the historic building while providing design updates to the current store facade. Second, to provide an interesting space with the limitation that the walls, floors, doors, and windows on the second floor cannot be altered.
