Alvega Canoeing Center / ateliermob

With the same area and volume of the previous building, the new Canoeing Center is also located at the river beach of Alvega. Its proximity to the Tagus river, in a regularly flooded area during the winter, determined its position, raised above ground level – increasing the ground permeability –, and the coating of its walls, with a solution of black recycled plastic profiles, able to resist the impact of objects that might be dragged by the river, being permeable to the water flow simultaneously.

Residence in Megara / Tense Architecture Network

The house is a frugal yet decisive answer to the need for a family shelter in the midst of a rather recluse site. It is articulated through the creation of two interior courtyards, while the interconnection of its open and closed spaces is served by two juxtaposed corridors -a glass-roofed and an open-air one. Its courtyards and living spaces remain inscribed in an austere, yet perforated triangle. Two of its trapezoid, inclined sides retain a deliberate protective massiveness while the third, rectilinear one opens up to the magnetic view of the opposite mountain.

Writer´s Retreat / Architectare

May 16, 2020 Cristian Aguilar 0

Built to be a writer´s retreat in the middle of nature, the building was designed under the symbol of the cave. The symbolism of the cave is very broad and diverse. It suggests shelter, self-knowledge, return to basics, reflection, pregnancy, growth, freedom through thought and many other meanings that can be found in ancient people´s mythologies and suggest the use of this building as much as a shelter as an ideas’s instigator.

The Wave: public performance space / The Scarcity and Creativity Studio

Sitio Eriazo, our client, is a collective whose aim is to recover empty, abandoned, urban spaces in the city of Valparaiso, Chile, which are currently rubbish dumps and attract vermin and delinquents. The members of the group are recent graduates from theater, art and architecture schools. The activities of the group rely on self-motivation, mutual support and a non-hierarchical organisation; they work to recover and make available to the community the urban patrimony of the city of Valparaiso which was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.“The colonial city of Valparaíso presents an excellent example of late 19th-century urban and architectural development in Latin America. In its natural amphitheater-like setting, the city is characterized by a vernacular urban fabric that clings to the hillsides that are dotted with a great variety of church spires. It contrasts with the geometrical layout of the sea-side plain. The city has well preserved its interesting early industrial infrastructures, such as the numerous ‘elevators’ on the steep hillsides.”

Construction site is a rural town away about 60 km from Hiroshima is a provincial city to the east, is a region where a population decline goes ahead through. In Japan, child-rearing facility is insufficient at urban areas. And children are overflowing that they are not put into child-rearing facility. On the other hand, advance the dilution of the local community at rural town where decreasing of the population advances. For that reason parenting households become isolation. By this situation, place of providing information to child care, which has been complemented by the local community until now has also been decreasing. And it has caused a sense of anxiety to the child care, it’s giving an adverse effect on the child-rearing environment.

Pathé Foundation / Renzo Piano Building Workshop

The art of inserting a building into an historical city block means engaging in an open, physical dialogue with those already there. Building onto an extant structure also presents an opportunity for a more widespread renovation project, a reclaiming of space. The new headquarters of the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé is an unexpected presence, a curved volume one glimpses floating in the middle of the courtyard in which it sits, anchored on just a few supports. On the ground, there is a stand of birch trees, a floral island set in the dense mineral context of the city.
