Ky Thuong is a small highland commune located about 60km from the center of Ha Long City in Quang Ninh province to the northeast. With an area of nearly 100 km2, the commune has only more than 500 people living, mainly Dao ethnic people. This is a very difficult commune in terms of economy, transportation, and lack of other social facilities. But in return, Ky Thuong is home to a large Dong Son nature reserve with many diverse and abundant plant and animal species, a majestic natural landscape, cool climate all year round. This is really a place with great potential for community tourism and nature conservation. But now, people here mainly live on subsistence agriculture combined with forestries such as planting acacia and other forest products.

Located in the Gardens by the Bay Singapore, the Bayfront Pavilion, also known as The Future of Us Pavilion, follows the tradition of architectural structures that evoke a dialogue with nature by blending an intricate form made of a perforated skin fluidly with the adjacent environments. Originally built to house The Future of Us Exhibition, the fiftieth-anniversary capstone event of Singapore, and completed for its current purpose in 2019, the building offers a climatically comfortable outdoor environment and a visual experience akin to walking under the foliage of lush tropical trees for visitors.

When traveling from Gangneung to Yangyang in Korea, you can see buildings with grids on their facades if you take Donghae Highway. Surfers began to gather in the small, quiet village, which is located at the entrance to the village. Although the town’s face has changed due to the somewhat aggressive exposure of the facades, the architecture is intended to bring new vitality to the area by changing the environment and view, as well as having a concise and organized design that will be helpful to the region.

House of Voids / Malik Architecture

Delhi’s existing neighborhoods have traditionally been defined by 2 story houses set back from the tree-lined road and buffered from it by a front garden. This relationship has been altered by the new planning regulations that permit taller structures, consuming greater area and with reduced setbacks. The resulting urban condition creates the sensation of buildings imposing themselves on the street and within the homes, the absence of green cover/courtyards and light are palpable. The ground plane, formerly garden and patio/living spaces, has been given over to parking, eliminating any meaningful connection to the street outside.

Luke House in Uluwatu, Bali – This residence is situated in a breathtaking area near the Uluwatu cliffs in Bali. This land provides a view of the vast ocean, where we can observe the sunset every evening. With relatively rectangular land adjacent to several new villas. Architects must be capable of meeting the necessities of this family. The family is comprised of a couple from two different countries who value Balinese culture and nature. I felt the need to maximize the existence of a very specific site location on the south side of Bali, where the violent waves from the Indian Ocean crashing against the cliff edge were very exotic and combined with the calm horizon where the hot sun abruptly descended and set into the sea. gradually, it became black. The soil in the region of Uluwatu consists primarily of rock and coral, making it simple to attach structures to the rock, but obtaining clean water is extremely difficult.

Bagh Shahr Villa / Experience Studio

April 17, 2023 Hana Abdel 0

The Baghshahr Villa project is located on a 25 x 60-meter plot of land with a slope of approximately 7% in a villa area facing the plain from the mountain. The area is characterized by high villas with varied materials, irregularity, and multiple types of architecture, including other villas. The project’s diagram is a critique of the organization of the plan among domino structures, which has influenced other types of architecture, such as other villas, and the urban structure as well. The project design process started with a diagram instead of a physical site due to the circumstances, and the initial idea of its formation was to get rid of spatial concepts. Hence, the spaces defined per the program were independent and wholly free.

KUMIHIMO: Japanese Silk Braiding by DOMYO / Rei Mitsui Architects

Design of the exhibition space for ‘Yushoku Kumihimo Domyo’ exhibition at the Japan House London, São Paulo, and Los Angeles. As we wondered how best to express the charm of small, delicate kumihimo within a large gallery, our first thought was that we needed a quiet and clear space, to make the small objects stand out and draw attention to them.

In traditional Japanese homes, deep eaves linked the interior with the garden; from the dim rooms inside, residents admired the bright garden and spent the evenings by lamplight. Human life unfolded within such spaces for many centuries. As Junichiro Tanizaki writes in “In Praise of Shadows,” there are materials and furnishings whose beauty and comfort can only be fully appreciated in the half-light of a traditional home. Then there is the relationship between exterior and interior, expressed in the saying teioku ichinyo, meaning harmony between architecture and garden. We feel that by drawing on these traditions as well as on the natural sensibility of the Japanese people, and by incorporating many materials and furnishings imbued with the warmth of things made by hand, it is possible to create truly restful environments.
