Set within the stunning natural wetlands of TPC Sawgrass, the new Global Home of the PGA TOUR in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida has officially opened. Bringing the entire organisation under one roof for the first time, the building offers an innovative vision for a workplace in a post-pandemic world. Focussing on health and wellbeing, the design blurs the boundaries between the lush landscape and the interior spaces with shaded outdoor terraces and generous amenities that embrace new ways of working and collaboration.

The rue de Tolbiac rehabilitation project is an act of sublimation, turning light, in all its forms, into the project’s main protagonist. The project has been christened “Illumine” and is notable for two key interventions: its massing and a fresh approach to light. The interplay of opalescence reveals the life of the building to the neighborhood while preserving its intimacy: a visual exchange between the city and the building. During the day, light penetrates the building and at night the building reflects this luminosity back to the city as if it were a lighthouse.

This project is the administration building for a small construction firm from Tottori, a nearby small city. In the midst of the recent pandemic, the firm opted to relocate its office to a nearby rural area. The new location is abundant in flora and fauna, with small-scale agricultural buildings and a vista dominated by the nearby extinct volcano Mt Daisen. The firm hoped that this setting would provide an escape from the dreariness of city lockdown for themselves and their team.

House in Havixbeck / Kai Binnewies

June 23, 2021 Paula Pintos 0

Havixbeck is a small village close to Münster/Westfalen. The site near the center is the former garden area of the adjacent apartment house, which was not in use by the inhabitants. Because of the sloping terrain and difficult building regulations, it was long for sale. The development plan set the cubature of the building and the materials to be used. The design fits all regulations but interprets the traditional gable roof house in a modern way as a sequence of abstract, interlocking shapes. These are – in traditional order – placed upon a concrete base building and topped by a light roof construction with fully glazed fronts to both sides. The house is designed as a spilt-level building with five levels plus a garage and fits perfectly into the existing terrain. The internal organsation is made visible in the facade with room-high glazings.

Six Square House / Young Projects

The residence is made up of six 24’x24’ gabled modules, arranged to align roof ridges and create continuity from one module to the next. In contrast, each module’s roof eaves flow upward and downward, which result in a variety of undulating surfaces and unexpected sightlines across the exterior and interior of the home. The home is clad in deep gray, slatted Accoya wood, whose striations enhance the roofscape’s dynamic edges and arcs.

Martin Malvy School / Séquences

Sited on former agricultural land next to the Plantaurel secondary school, 600 metres from the old centre of Cazères and the train station, the sixth-form college was duty-bound to blend harmoniously into its environment while also adding to the attraction of the village and to the development of the area by providing families with a good local sixth-form college. On this longitudinal plot, the college is arranged in successive strips. Ordered on the entrance court side, they deform and break rank as one moves back into the campus, leaving space for vegetation and for nature. Like the organisation of the neighbouring plot, the density of building at the front progressively diminishes, freeing the back of the plot for sports, games and leisure activities. This arrangement ensures the gentle transition between the different environments framed within the site. Ensuring the image of a modern public establishment, able to evolve, in harmony with its time and its environment, has naturally orientated the choice of building materials for the new college, all are durable, solid and easy to maintain. With concrete and glass bases, the timber-ribbed upper floors are animated towards the top by a play of slopes, echoing the Pyrenees that are ever-present in the landscape.
