Column Layout in a Residence Example with Some Basic Rules

Column Layout for a residential villa of one and half floors is presented in this post. The column size initially was 9″ x 12″ and was used with the M15 grade of concrete. But, the builder wanted to save on his budget and he decided to make the columns smaller in size. And so, we can see columns in the Floor plans below with 9″x 9″  size but the Engineer made sure that M20 grade of concrete would be used for this size of columns.Column Layout in a Residence Example with Some Basic Rules

Column Layout Rules of Achievement

  • When the size of the columns is 9″ x 9″ there goes the use of M20 grade of concrete.
  • Distance between the columns does not exceed 4.5 m.
  • Alignment of Columns which are arranged on iron grid pattern should be on zigzag walls and zigzag beams which will reduce the complications in the structure.
