FADD studio designs the ash abode in india with block green walls

characterized by simplicity, clean lines, and sumptuous blocks of color, FADD studio has realized the ‘ash abode’ in bengaluru, india. the design of the new duplex residence takes inspiration from the japanese art of ukiyo-e, which roughly translates to ‘living in the moment’, to create a home that embodies ideas of minimalism and ‘zen’ sensibilities.

inspired by le corbusier and pierre jeanneret, the ash abode has several elements that have been reinterpreted from their furniture, art and interior works. additionally, a few bold japanese elements are employed by FADD studio to bring a little drama to the project. upon entering, residents arrive into a large double-height space that forms the main social area while also providing an important element to link the other parts of the house.

the natural colors and materials of the furniture pieces stand out vibrantly against the textured grey-green walls, adding a dash of drama

during the development of the design, there was a conscious effort to avoid the use of anything white. the wall and ceiling surfaces are instead decorated in soft grey-green, which is anchored by the contrasting burnt sienna colored floors. overall, the combination of hues, very carefully selected furniture pieces and lighting elements synchronize to create an elegant yet welcoming home.

the design team wanted the materiality of the walls, the ceiling and the floor to be harmoniously matte, only to differ in color
