At the edge of a forest, our intervention create the limit. Facing the South and framing the trees, the building captures the views and the light. The apparent structure in wood and concrete creates the space partition, expressed through a simple, rational and repetitive plan for the sake of economy.

Te Ara Ātea Library & Community Center / Warren & Mahoney

Te Ara Ātea is a new library and community facility located in Rolleston near Christchurch. The anchor project for the future Rolleston Town Centre, Te Ara Ātea acts as a beacon, not only in location but for the diverse and growing community it serves. The project has a strong community focus and challenges the typical preconceptions of a ‘library’, in keeping with its gifted name which means ‘unobstructed trail to the world and beyond.’

Konishi Gaffney Architects have completed the overhaul of Greyfriars Charteris Centre in Edinburgh’s city center following an invited competition in 2017. The £1.7m refurbishment, improvement, and extension of the former church provides a flexible workspace, a community hub, events spaces, and a non-denominational sanctuary.

The Community Development Center project aims to be a place to attend the necessities of a high marginated area by offering educational, legal and medical services, and a community dining room; it also could be used as a distribution point for food and supplies in case of natural disasters. The project is organized in three parallel volumes in an East-West orientation to reduce sun exposition directly on the facades and the heat gain it implies, and it is distributed in one single level to guarantee universal accessibility.

Community Hall of Dahei New Village / One University One Village

Dahei New Village is located in Xiyang Township, Jinning County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province in China. Most local villagers are Yi minority. The vernacular buildings there are mainly built by earth and some are in disrepair recently. One University One Village (1U1V) team has carried out a series of rammed earth building renovation projects and developed a set of innovative rammed earth building strategies which are well recognized to suit the local needs. Gongfang (community hall) is a multi-purpose activity hall that the villagers use to hold events such as weddings, funerals, and festivals. However, the former community hall was too old to use and has safety risks. 1U1V team obtained an agreement with the township government to rebuild it by using innovative anti-seismic rammed earth construction technology in order to provide a more safe, comfortable, functional, and artistic space for the villagers.

San Ignacio Community Center / Grupo Edisur

Urban Role within the Intervention Sector. Site / Situation. The building is located in a new development on the outskirts of the City of Cordoba, Argentina. This peripheral sector was, long ago, the center of industrial activities. The San Ignacio Community Center is a private proposal for a public space where the local community is responsible for the activities and the maintenance of the architecture. The building’s main purpose is to activate social processes for community development. It was designed to promote social assemblies and the community´s participation in urban planning.

Little Assisi Kitchen / DRAWING WORKS

Seongbuk-dong Share Kitchen Remodeling – ‘Assisi’ is a small town in the central area of Italy, and it is famous for buildings that were built by piling up bright colored building stones. The building owner visited this area a few years back and wanted to reflect on the feelings from the trip while remodeling an old house in the village of Seongbuk-dong. The exotic impression of ‘Little Assisi,’ a shared kitchen designed by remodeling an old house, began from this mind. In the façade acquainted with the alley, a material that reminds of Assisi was selected to show a fresh design that is hard to find nearby. In addition, all the rooms were demolished to use as a shared kitchen and designed so that the cooking process and meals can be enjoyed in a wide space.

Mark Odom Studio repurposed shipping containers to create a one-of-a-kind experience at Austin’s exciting new hospitality complex Parmer Ponds The Pitch. The PitchAustin’s distinct hospitality and entertainment complex for Austin FC soccer fans and the community debuted this spring. The two-acre site is a one-of-a-kind destination hub for retail, food, office and outdoor gatherings served from flexible two-story repurposed shipping containers. The unique project was designed by Austin award-winning architecture and interiors firm, Mark Odom Studio.
