Studio Jan Vermeulen in collaboration with Tom Thys architects developed a master plan for the main entrance landscape infrastructure and designed a new visitor center that replaces the outdated existing buildings of Prinsenpark. The project is an exhibition and educational space by the NGO Aquasis – Associação de Pesquisa e Preservação de Ecossistemas Aquáticos – to receive visitors on Picos beach, at the east coast of Ceará. The vision of the West Hall project at the old state prison from 1853 was not to tear down the walls but to perform a revitalizing ‘operation’ of the prison with an almost surgical incision, for it to adapt to the demands and needs of the present without putting the past out of play. The prison is a physical historical imprint with great socio-historical and architectural perspectives, and authenticity and relatability in the design have been crucial for the transformation.
The Panda Tower is designed by UDG Atelier Alpha for the new campus of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. It is a new cultural landmark that combines observation, exhibition, and sightseeing. In addition, it is a work of practice that celebrates the combination of nature and technology.
The Town Hall of Quedillac wanted to build a Cultural Center for the city. The main objective was to battle against capsularisation by providing a place where a diversity of publics could mix and gather around a common ground, thus fostering a social bond among the citizens. The new building would include a multimedia library, a hall – coffee area, a youth space for teenagers, and a childcare section for small children.
