This beautiful example of mid-century modernism has been given a considered renovation to ensure it stands the test of time and stays true to its history. The A+C Residence involved modest alterations and additions to an existing single-family home in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The clients were enamoured with the existing mid-century modern style of the home and sought to update it in a way that further exemplifies this era.
The 130m² apartment, located in a building built in the 1970s in Curitiba, was in its original state when clients – a couple with two teenage daughters – came to the office to have it renovated.
Aldo Beach House transforms a 1940s beach house into a new multi-generational home—doubling the livable area while lightly touching the delicate ecology of the waterfront. Two shifting wings hover over the hillside and beach supported by thin steel columns and pin piles. Located on the eastern shore of Hood Canal near the Bangor submarine base, the new beach house includes the original two-bedroom structure for an expanded program of two new bedrooms, two bathrooms, and flex space. The design consists of three distinct parts: the original footprint, and the two projecting wings: the first a south ground floor addition, and the second an upper-level master suite to the north.
The property is located on the slopes of the mountains that bound the south side of the city of San Jose, Costa Rica. The challenge of the project was to reuse the majority of the structure of two existing buildings that were never completed and had stood vacant for ten years. As the concrete work was in good condition, the architects decided to reuse as much of the existing as possible. The aim however was to completely transform the building and create a home that integrated with the site and to take advantage of the beautiful views of the city, forest and mountains.
This project aimed to reinvent segregated enclosed zones into an integrated and connected space, thereby enhancing the quality of the abode. The removal of existing partitions walls that separated the kitchen from the living room and stairwell was an integral part of the design solution to create seamless continuity of a unified space. The display shelf unit that spans across the living room and kitchen area to further open up space.
In the late summer of 2018, studio ATAH participated in the design of a series of industrial projects along the Cao’an Highway in Jiading District, Shanghai. Among them, the renovation of the Yangtze 3MAP elevator factory adopted a light-weight renewal strategy, and the construction of it was completed two years later. Shanghai Yangtze Elevator Factory was founded in the 1980s and has a great reputation in the industry in China. After the millennium, by introducing German technology and production specifications, the 3MAP elevators that are manufactured in Shanghai starts to export to Germany and other countries around the world. Since then, the spirit of craftsmanship in the German manufacturing industry is gradually becoming the DNA of the Yangtze 3MAP factory in China.
Redefining Prairie Style. Hayama Kachi house is a Prairie Style residence built in 1928 near the suburb area of Tokyo, it was originally designed by Arata Endo, one of the disciples of Frank Lloyd Wright. As the time pass by, this tangible cultural property of Japan started to age more rapidly and need to have proper renovation to preserve its historical value.
The cafe is located on side of Yongjia Road, in the former French concession in Shanghai. On the other side of the road, there is a 1928 built German heritage castle which has wall surface with fine sand mixed pebble and a tower with steep roof. It used to be Ziwen Song’s residence and now serves as a centre for the elderly.
Located in Merida, Yucatan’s Historic Center, Casa Lupita pays tribute to the classic colonial architecture of its historic neighborhoods. This project involved restoration as well as architectural, interior, furniture and landscape design.
This commission consisted on the re-conversion of a former electricity supply premise, located on the ground floor of a 1900 building in the center of Madrid, into offices for a new and technological real estate developer.
