The design of Phu Quoc house is inspired by a young couple living on the island who share their concerns about the unstable freshwater supply for the island’s residents due to the overdevelopment of tourism infrastructure, which has depleted the groundwater. Considering the island’s high salinity and the intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds that damage building structures, the couple desires an affordable, sustainable, and eco-friendly home that can harvest rainwater to meet their daily needs.

Down The Rabbit Hole / Studio LAB (Language.Architecture.Body)

The house embodies a subliminal connection with its surroundings. Sited amongst the ghats around a tranquil lake, this is a weekend home for a dancer and her family. Thoughtfully orientated, the homes unfold in a series of connected pavilions. Each pavilion has its own spatial purpose flowing to the next. Each space holds a unique perspective of the lake view. Designed to awaken with the pulse of nature; life in this home is therapeutic. Set along a north-south axis, the sun registers itself on the east and west-facing skin of the home. The solstice sun rays align with the deliberate color blocks on the living room wall, honoring the universe and time.

Aguilar House / Taller Segovia Molina

Casa Aguilar arises with the idea of creating an interior oasis where a family can experience introspection and contemplation while inhabiting their home. This intention is reflected in its architecture through a solid envelope that acts as a second skin, protecting against views of a densely planned area. Inside, natural light filters through patios on each of the three levels, creating a serene and intimate atmosphere.

Angkor Market / UAD Architects

Situated on Preah Sihanouk Ave, linking the northern route that leads to Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and downtown of Siem Reap, Angkor Market is a two-story red brick building, surrounded by a century’s worth of cultural heritage Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, Angkor National Museum and Amansara Resort. We aim to activate a gap in the urban fabric and create a new gathering spot while maintaining the harmony of the existing neighborhood. The market comprises grocery stores, pharmacies, stationery, and household appliances that contribute to making people’s shopping experiences pleasurable.

In the remote suburb of Madarganj, where buildings are often constructed without consultants, the project was initiated similarly. The client, one of eight siblings, hired a local contractor to extend his portion of the ancestral home. However, upon erecting the skeleton, the resulting structure was found to lack proper light and ventilation, prompting reconsideration. The designers were appointed at this phase, reflecting many similar situations architects encounter, where architecture becomes more an act of surgery than novel creation, especially in suburban contexts.

Canada Water Pedestrian Boardwalk / Asif Khan Studio

British Land and AustralianSuper, the joint venture partners behind the Canada Water masterplan, unveiled a new Asif Khan-designed public architectural landmark. The dramatic 170m long boardwalk is inspired by the history of the Surrey Docks and its role at the heart of the timber trade during the 19th and 20th centuries. Townshend Landscape Architect designed a series of new steps down to the water’s edge with waterside seating alongside an educational dipping pond, transforming the area into a unique public space to bring people together to learn about the area’s heritage and ecology. The striking red timber structure allows people to traverse the dock by stepping from timber to timber, following in the footsteps of the rafters who hopped between floating deal planks in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Connecting Hearts, Communicating Bakery – Stacked with ‘time’ and the sincere ‘craftsmanship’ that has been built up over the years, Citizen Bakery is a place that ‘connects people’ by remembering the warm ‘heart’ and memories. The new Citizen Bakery, located along the Hyeongsan River, has been designed with the keywords “Connecting Hearts, Communicating Bakery” in mind. It is expected to become a warm yet lively space, applying and developing various ideas. The brand identity of Citizen Bakery was applied to ensure that both the brand and the space continue to tell one unified story. We hope that the new image of Citizen Bakery will remain vividly in the minds of our customers and that the long journey of Citizen Bakery will continue to grow in the hearts of the people who visit.
