Lighthouse Pavilion / Grau Architects

December 31, 2021 Paula Pintos 0

Ipolytarnóc is a small rural village in Hungary, with a sparse settlement of simple family houses typical for this agrarian environment, near the border with Slovakia. The Lighthouse pavilion was created as an intervention within the art project Field of sparks, which seeks to make this “forgotten” geographical area more attractive and promotional. Until now, the festival has focused on artistic interventions in the surrounding country, but to a large extent, it was a matter of transforming conceptual design ideas into pure artistic installations.

The Professionals Involved in the Best Projects of 2021

December 30, 2021 Paula Pintos 0

Every year, ArchDaily’s curatorial team publishes thousands of new architectural projects. From this experience, we know that no one builds alone and that these projects would not have been possible without the collaboration of many other professionals that are as much involved as the architects and designers themselves.

House in a Walnut Grove / Konkret studio

Location. The location of the project hides between a walnut grove and an open hayfield. On the front yard of the traditional narrow-but-long plot stands an old farmhouse, which is typical at this area of the settlement. The new house takes place at the back of the former yard and can be reached by an access road. In determining the new building’s position, we took into account the possible establishment of a road along with the arable land, so we slightly pulled the mass away from the rear boundary. That had various effects on the design, like the entrance’s position or displacement and size of the openings. This composition creates a harmonious atmosphere around the house, while the mass fits well the shady environment covered with walnut trees.

The Center Won’t Hold Pavilion / The Open Workshop

The numerous vacant lots in Chicago represent urban inequity that is propelled by—and a symptom of— property ownership. As more residents are living in precarity, the urban commons, wherein a shared resource is collectively managed and governed, have taken on new importance. By sharing resources, residents can have access to more resources without an economic burden. While domestic commons (or communes) have historically offered meaningful forms of agency to residents, they have struggled to become a widespread model for living.

Origine Apartments / Maud Caubet Architects

At the corner of the Aimé Césaire Boulevard and the main boulevard of La Défense, the large white monolith reveals beautiful asperities playing the warm alliance of wood and glass before proposing an emblematic entrance that is both gigantic and reassuring, like the entrance to a cave.

House SG / Finckh Architekten

The property is located on the southern slope of Schorndorf (20 km east of Stuttgart), directly bordering a protected area. In the north and east beautiful orchards as far as the eye can see, in the south and west marginal, uninspiring architecture. A place between urbanity and nature.
