Sierra Fria House / PPAA Pérez Palacios Arquitectos Asociados + Alfonso de la Concha Rojas

Casa Sierra Fría is a house located in Lomas de Chapultepec, in Mexico City. Since most of the plots in this residential area had regular constructions on three of its four sides, the architectural concept of the project decided to explore the idea of a vacuum within an open structural grid. Where each quadrant has a different program, establishing a connection with the patio that surrounds it.

The design strategy of this house is based on a commitment to artisanal constructive honesty, the respect towards natural context in an urban area, and the constant search for a way of inhabiting where material austerity provides spatial quality. The main body of the house is located in the southern boundary of the land, respecting the 3 preexisting fruit trees on the north side and taking advantage of the best ventilation and natural light possible.

A Guy, his Bulldog, a Vegetable Garden, and the Home they Share / HUSOS

May 9, 2019 Clara Ott 0

This is a project to refurbish a small, 46 square metre apartment for Jaime, an ER doctor, and Albóndiga, his bulldog. Although the original apartment had a double east-west orientation, most of the cross-ventilation was blocked by several interior walls, which meant that the distribution did not adequately respond to Madrid’s high temperatures in summer. This was a key aspect to consider in the new design, for both Jaime and Albóndiga. As bulldogs are a delicate breed, they are especially sensitive to heat. This was why the interior was redistributed to create a kitchen-living-dining room that is open to the east as well as the west, allowing the air to circulate.

An intuitive, functional and simple experience of living, but with great spatial warmth.

Introverted, solid and antagonistic single-family house inside a gated community that protects the privacy of its inhabitants within a large concrete monolith arranged around a central courtyard that orders, facilitates views to the south, seeks appropriate orientation and generates an interior microclimate that adequately responds to the physical-geographical conditions of the area.

REPII House / VivoTripodi

REPII represents the second part of a project carried out by the Office years ago. On this occasion, the concept of the project consisted of expanding the capacity to receive family or visitors. The word enlargement often assumes a meaning of expanding on the built, expanding a space “stretching” existing limits to conceive new spaces. For us, these new spaces should be conceived as spaces disconnected from the main house, allowing guests to enjoy privacy in intimate moments and thus make the most of contact with nature.
