We used reclaimed bricks salvaged from old houses that were being demolished in Chennai and it’s surrounding, to give way for apartments. Court House is built with bricks aged between 15 to 70 years, and were salvaged from more than 40 demolition sites and tested for compressive strength. The exterior of Courthouse stands as an expression of a collage of these bricks of different ages. Today their second life continues.
We designed a facility for meditation in a forest on the outskirts of Munich, not too far from Ludwig II’s Neuschwanstein castle.
An old village theatre built in the late nineteenth century and converted over time first in a barn and then in a toilet paper warehouse is now transformed to operate as a live/work space. “The Theatre” (name that has maintained the building despite the change in its uses) is located in the geographical heart of Barcelona at the buoyant tech district 22 @ in the Poblenou neighbourhood. A few meters away from Diagonal Avenue and the new Central Park of the Glorias.
A house inside a vertical spiral hides in the depths of its surroundings. The integration between outside and inside is the main ingredient– much before any construction material or form.
Faintly resembling the solitary nymph who could only repeat the last words spoken by someone else, the proposed pavilion is a direct echo of its historical surroundings.
As a result of the earthquake of September 19th in 2017, with the epicentre in San Felipe Ayutla Puebla, cities and towns in the center of the country were seriously affected. Only in the state of Puebla more than 200 public schools were severely damaged, most of them rural.
This project was born from the idea of relating the spaces of this house through a common thread. It was created with the intention of formalizing a link that communicates the two ends of the apartment, materializing as a suspended ceiling that relates the existing and the new as a superposition.
The request was for 3 housing units on two floors with 2 bedrooms and a surface per unit of 100 m2, intended to be sold.
To properly contextualize a new work is of utmost importance, especially in interventions of existing projects, in cases of renovations and/or extensions. In a certain way, the natural context in which they are situated is already influenced, as an intrinsic part of the environment.
