Plastic waste is probably a common obsession in the world today, especially in developing countries like Vietnam. Plastic waste comes from consumption habits and production costs in general. Changing habits is not easy. For many tourist areas, this amount of waste also makes Vietnam’s image less friendly.

Morris Moor Commercial and Hospitality Precinct / Genton

December 30, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

Genton’s recently completed Morris Moor project transforms the site of the former Phillip Morris cigarette factory into a vibrant commercial and hospitality precinct that draws the community in and celebrates local heritage. Situated on a prominent corner intersected by two main roads, the buildings have acted as a landmark for the Moorabbin community since the 1950s, distinctive among the uniformity of prefabricated warehouses. “The cultural significance of the industrial Architecture was too great to disregard,” says Genton Principal Marc Debney.

Ape Yakitori Bar / Prevalent

Carbon Neutral Authenticity – Âpé Yakitori Bar attempts to provide authenticity to a standardized, early 2000s tenancy shell, a prevalent and often challenging typology that today dominates our cities. Yakitori, literally translated as a grilled bird, remains one of the most traditional and efficient practices of cooking. Each individual part of the chicken, animal, or vegetable (in its modern interpretation) is utilized, from the heart to the thigh, liver, and neck. It is the act of deconstruction to base constituent parts without wastage.

Brick House / The Purple Ink Studio

December 28, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

The Brick House is located in the coastal town of Mangalore, in the south Karnataka region. A melting pot of many cultures coming together, the city is well-known for its inimitable landscape and dotted heritage lingering in the old parts of the town.  The site is in a dense urban sprawl in that area. Having moved to Saudi, the client’s aspiration was to have a family home close to his ancestral roots. The design brief for the house had stories from his formative years walking past the old brick factories with chimneys poking above the coconut trees. And those of red-oxide flooring and lime plaster-finished walls which keep the house refreshingly cool.  To put it together, this family house should evoke memories of the past while keeping the design unique and aesthetically modern. Mangalore features a tropical climate with heavy to moderate rainfall most of the year and hot summer days. Passive design strategies and planning principles were involved to ensure uninterrupted cross-ventilation.

An alteration to an existing warehouse conversion on Gadigal country in Camperdown, Rosso Verde is quality over quantity personified. In an area where space is at a premium, this project rejects the prevailing notion that bigger is always better, instead focusing on the quality of each room, access to the garden, and abundant natural light.

Scripted around a 4,000-year-old tomb, the Mleiha Archaeological Centre is located in the desert of Sharjah at the foot of Fossil Rock Mountain. The Centre is at the heart of a larger ecotourism development focused on local wildlife, desert activities, and the area’s archaeological riches. Bringing together an indoor museum and a café with outdoor walkways, desert gardens, and contemplation areas, the center is an example of the enriching role that architecture plays when committed consideration for context is taken during the design process.

REIKIS Mangwon Commercial Building / Studio Stuckyi

0 Territory Extension of designers’ business – Real estate development by designers: We live in an age when it is common to have multiple occupations. The boundaries between jobs are disappearing, and many people have multiple jobs with different names. It happens in the design industry, too. Studio Stuckyi is a studio where 3 designers who have worked on architectural design and interior design in their own workplaces met together. Each designer has been comprehensively working in designing commercial spaces and brands and has built up knowledge of real estate development from previous workplaces. It felt like a good team to spread into new areas of business. We wondered what is beyond designing the building in the sites requested by clients. If we the designers could plan and build the space for ourselves and then take over the management, would it be possible to create a better space?

December 26, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

The house’s context is located in Phu Bai town, which is ten kilometers far away from the heart of Hue city. A growing urban area leads to a narrowing of arable land. Hue city is known for its harsh weather conditions, so we chose a 7x17x11m single-shell structure to cover all the spaces of the building.
