Design Strategies
Facing adaptability requirements of emerging industry space and high-density development model determined by the plan, as well as the context of the regional spatial cultural heritage on the non-characteristic sites, we hope to create a positive office environment with a spatial sense of belonging and cultural identity. Our basic strategy is to introduce a different R&D space combination model and be coupled with a multi-level three-dimensional courtyard organization to create a unique semi-public space for every entity settled in the block and then to promote exchange and sharing for future use in a variety of ways. Getting inspiration from the traditional garden culture of virtual-real complementation and varying sceneries with changing view-points, we regard the courtyard as the core organization space to improve the spatial flexibility and enthusiasm, and to create the landscape charm of garden culture on Yangtze Delta in such high density place, providing the industrial innovation space with spirit of regional culture. The three kinds of blocks with spatial prototyping are the “Wrinkled Peaks and Hidden Attics” for small R&D units, the “Elevated Courtyards” and the “Enclosure Courtyards with Duplex Units” for medium R&D units.

Regeneration of old housed- brewing in Beijing years, continuing intoxicating fragrance of the old winery
Secluded side of the road, outside of a large panel of metal grille wall, wine boxes orderly misplaced and interspersed among them, sun light penetrates to an aged factory building in rear, showing the depth of the elevation texture. This project, the Museum Of International Brewmasters Art, locates in the center of Beijing, a ruin of classical Russian structural industrial building. It is an epitome of a Chinese old brand, Dragon Seal Red Wine, experienced the vicissitudes of times and finally retired cause by out of date. Afterward, a group of people found this mottled container, repositioned the spirit with the dense sense of spatial presence of the old winery, reshaped by contemporary design techniques, trying to create more interacting spaces of wine and people, or people and people. Now, it will reload the spirit and extend the Chinese wine culture.

Modern skyscrapers liberate human activities from gravity. Skyscraper featured by verticality makes us break away from familiar senses and consciousness of being existing. “An existence without evidences” is not only the description of varied skyscrapers but also of the life it accommodated. Architecture should respond to its specific site actively and establish dialogue with its context, thereby bringing correlation of spatial experiences and continuity of visual consciousness, which makes people, space, movement, and event tied to environment in a bigger scale.

The new campus design signifies a highly linked & connected institution. It looks into the compact urban condition of Hong Kong itself for direct inspiration and epitomizes a miniature city, dense and connected. The spatial organization maximizes density by stacking multiple slab blocks of different programs vertically on top of each other over a podium of communal activities, including a number of lecture theatres and a gymnasium. A folded vertical Student Boulevard rises to form a 3-dimensional street network in the air that weaves and binds the different blocks and levels into a connected whole. From the Boulevard, students can gain free access to a series of sky gardens and roof decks of various scales on different levels: turfed green lawn sloping towards the sea, student plaza & mini café etc., all afforded with magnificent sea views and lively atmosphere.
