House between Old Mud Walls / Estudio Jesús Donaire

March 7, 2019 Clara Ott 0

The House between Old Mud Walls tries to consolidate a lot which original function was that of agricultural storage. Its existing walls are part of the visual memory of the inhabitants of the small town of Malagón, in the province of Ciudad Real. The project is a new construction that considers adding value to the former walls, constructed with the system of ‘tapial’ (old mud walls), of kneaded land and stone, protected with ‘cal’.

The design synthesis for the residential building JA1205 arises from the conformation of two building volumes of four levels each, implanted in front and back of the terrain: a triple front lot, in the neighborhood of Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Light, intended as the origin of the project; as an immaterial element that became the principle of the structural order. The origin of its rhythm and its proportion. The layout of the plot, on the east-west axis, imposed its search. The project was conceived from the section; as a vertical stacking system composed by a sequence of elements attached in height to each other with the sole purpose of exploiting natural lighting. With our project strategy, we were not only meant to achieve an appreciable energy saving, but we should also provide the working area with the most favorable, warm atmosphere for the development of working activities.

In an arid landscape and an almost flat land of the municipality of San Juan de Urabá, this school was built replacing previous buildings in very poor condition. Around a wide area of games and the soccer field, modular buildings form a polygonal perimeter, with corridors to the interior, and silent facades to the outside.

Frame House / NOMO STUDIO

The plot is located on the northeast coast of Minorca, Spain, inside the urbanization of Coves Noves with a magnificent view over the sea. The steep inclination of the plot together with the site regulations made the positioning of the house very limited. In order to avoid the house in front blocking the views, the house was pushed back to the highest point of the plot and the main entrance was located on the first floor. To further guarantee this clear view, the traditional program was flipped so that the dayarea is located on the first floor and the bedrooms on the groundfloor. Only the master bedroom can be found on the top floor, responding to the clients request to have a summer house easy to open and close for short weekend stays where maybe only the couple lives there. In this way, the house can be understood as a single level loft with an extension for their children and guests below.

Explore the potential of the human figure in architectural representation

March 4, 2019 Clara Ott 0

The human figure is fundamental in order to understand scale in illustrations, hyper-realistic renders, collages and three-dimensional representations. However, it often seems to be one of the last elements to be incorporated, when it should be a thoughtful decision, intrinsically related to the project. What do human figures transmit beyond the scale of a project?
