April 26, 2021 Collin Chen 0

Project background
The 600-year-old Hulong Bridge is silent, and the 300-year-old Du’s Ancestral Hall stood solemnly. Huanglong Village, with a rich historical context, complement each other with two modern sculptures in Fulin Park. History and reality intertwine together ingeniously. Huanglong Waterfront Bamboo Pavilion 2.0 is located in Huanglong Ancient Village, Beijiao, Foshan, Guangdong Province. It used to be called “Baijiao” in ancient times, which means “hundred interlaced rivers and dense water network”. In the typical Lingnan water town, the grey space of the waterfront is suitable for the climate. Therefore, plenty of public space interspersed in Huanglong Village is the most popular and charming activity places. The ones integrated with nature become close-to-water camps for residents to live, chat and entertain.

April 26, 2021 Collin Chen 0

Background
Located in Huli District, Xiamen City, at the former site of an aluminum factory, the building was originally a public bath of the factory. In 2019, it was partially renovated after the aluminum factory was transformed into a creative office park with multiple businesses. TEAM BLDG was asked by Buddha artist Jiang Sheng, to transform the public bath into a new studio and exhibition space called ‘the field’. The Chinese name of The Field is called “Ji Le Chang”, which is derived Buddhism, meaning the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss or Sukhavati, but “THE FIELD” is not intended to be an isolated pure land. The owner hopes to separate the concept of “isolated and unreachable” and create an appealing spiritual place.

Rural Art Center in Qianfenxi Village / Atelier Sounding Architecture

April 23, 2021 Collin Chen 0

The site is located at the west end of a bridge as the entrance of Qianfenxi Village, north of Fujian Province in China. Being close to the stream, while being hidden behind the terrain and houses along the road, this site becomes a certain junction in between nature and man-made. As the starting point of local vitalization, the original grain factory which is closed and chaotic needs to be renovated into an open rural art center. Thus the design thinking starts as following: how to form an open and vivid public space at the entrance of the village, how to sort out or even rebuild a space order among the randomly arranged exiting buildings, and how to achieve space quality within a limited budget by using locally feasible construction method.
