Social Housing in Aigues-Mortes / Thomas Landemaine Architectes

January 1, 2021 Cristian Aguilar 0

The project of collective housing in Aigues-Mortes has been developed within an exceptional site, living witness of the 70s. The building is located in a factory estate whose architecture is marked by a modern style. The plot occupies a key spot; the work has to manage the transition from a scale to another, between 3-storey housings and individual houses the latter being scattered at the rear of the plot, on the property line.

Communique Headquarters / DaeWha Kang Design

December 5, 2020 Cristian Aguilar 0

DaeWha Kang Design has undertaken a full recladding and gut renovation of a 1980’s era office building, bringing the building envelope up to today’s environmental standards and creating a bold visual statement within an old and run-down neighbourhood. A formerly neglected car park under the building overhang has been transformed into a crystalline space of tessellated stainless steel, filled with light and a bold play of reflections. The new Communique Headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul will house a public relations firm of fifty staff, as well as an indoor-outdoor ground floor cafe and rooftop event space intended to breathe new life into the surrounding area.

We always worry about the well being of the people who will inhabit the spaces that we design and hope to see built. To inhabit is to occupy those spaces and to perform the vital functions of comfort, of work or pleasure. In reality, it is to do with ordering and giving form to functions.

Cuyperspassage is the name of the new tunnel at Amsterdam Central Station that connects the city and the waters of the IJ-river. Since the end of 2015 it has been used by large numbers of cyclists, some 15,000 daily, and pedestrians 24 hours a day. This ‘slow traffic corridor’ was exactly what many users of the city felt was lacking. What once was by necessity a left or right turn is now, at long last, straight ahead. The tunnel is clad on one side by nearly 80,000 Delft Blue tiles: a true Dutch spectacle at a central spot in Amsterdam.

Ephemeral House is a renovation project of a 100-year-old wooden building located in the center of Kyoto, Japan. The client, who is in his twenties and lives alone, asked for a temporary dwelling. Our intent in this project is not only to generate an appropriate atmosphere for a living but also to avoid hierarchical dichotomy between past and present, through that creating a space that has a rich sense of transience and festivity.

Town House in Antwerp / Sculp[IT]

June 27, 2020 Cristian Aguilar 0

A town house ready for the next century. The façade keeps its historical function and bourgeois radiance, neatly in line. The contrast with the rear is ample. All incorrect additions are replaced by a unit of space and light. Daylight and contact with the garden are introduced. The simple, contemporary glass rear has the world’s largest pivoting window – 3 meters wide by 6 meters high – and makes this house ready for the future.
