House TN / 1-1 Architects

April 28, 2026 Miwa Negoro 0

This project is a house planned within a rural settlement located in an urbanization control area. The surrounding context is characterized by generous single-story farmhouse dwellings. However, due to the site’s favorable location, land subdivision has recently accelerated, and an increasing number of parcels are being sold as speculative housing developments or ready-built homes. These houses, driven by profitability and ease of sale, tend to maximize building coverage ratios and are subdivided internally into increasing numbers of nLDK units. As a result, the neighborhood has become denser, with deteriorating daylighting and ventilation conditions, confining residents within overcrowded and inflexible interiors.

Set in an outer worldly patch of land filled with mature Neem trees, the house is a homage to the near blackened gnarly trunks and their bright green canopy. The Neem house snakes along the trees in a predominant ‘serrated’ C-shaped configuration.

Astaka Kota Selera is a sensitive architectural intervention that reconciles the preservation of Malaysia’s colonial heritage with the vibrant, lived reality of its contemporary street food culture. The project is a pivotal component of the North Seafront Improvement Programme in George Town, Penang, born from a unique archaeological necessity: the reinstatement of the Western Moat of Fort Cornwallis. The original food court sat directly atop the historic moat’s alignment; to allow for the excavation and reconstruction of this defensive landmark, the culinary facility required a strategic relocation.

As Japan’s regional communities face population decline and changing burial customs, temples are increasingly required to rethink how spaces for remembrance are built and used. Joren-ji Ossuary replaces an aging reinforced-concrete structure with a new timber building made from locally sourced cedar, proposing a contemporary model for sacred architecture rooted in continuity rather than nostalgia.

O16 House / studiokian

Starting from a desire to blend a unique, tropical, and private sanctuary for a house, comes a dwelling that welcomes the user to indulge in natural elements, both man-made and contextual. O16 is located in a gateless complex with a corner site that overlooks a basketball park and the complex perimeter boundary. The house has a secluded feeling with views and a row of eternal greenery that is provided by the surroundings, thus making the 2nd floor of the house basically undisturbed in terms of views.
