brazilian architecture practice BR3 arquitetos has completed house TR1215 in porto alegre, southern brazil. the residence constitutes a single-family home situated in a 780 square meter plot featuring an extensive lake at the end of the terrain. the irregular plot design, as well as the need for a large protected social area, were the issues that guided the design of the project.

for house TR1215, BR3 arquitetos has divided the program into three different volumes. located on the first floor on the west front, the first volume hosts the main access, service area, toilet and office. the second, which has been positioned 6 meters behind the previous one, houses the living areas, including kitchen, living and dining room. the last volume on the second floor, contains the bedrooms and clothes room.
set on the first floor, the first two blocks use the configuration of the lot as a drawing matrix. the first volume serves as protection while it covers the rest of the house, while the second block — detached six meters from the previous one — provides the social area of the house with a continuity to the final portion of the lot, which ends in an extensive lake. the separation between the blocks results in two internal courtyards — one for service and one for social use — allowing natural light to flow into the interior, cross ventilation, and the integration of the pieces inserted in the first floor.
the upper part has been longitudinally oriented in order to explore the extensive dimension of the lot, establishing the dormitory bar. this volume has been elevated 3.8 meters from the ground, and cantilevers 6 meters to the front of the house, creating protection for pedestrians and vehicles. the openings of the bedrooms are inserted on the east and west façades, creating a visual relationship with the lake and the inner courtyard.
