Sculptform Design Studio / Woods Bagot

March 29, 2022 Bianca Valentina Roșescu 0

Blurring the line between retail space and installation, Sculptform’s is a brilliant ‘working showroom’ case study for just how impactful design can be when local manufacturing and quality craftsmanship come together. Sculptform is a bespoke feature wall and ceiling manufacturer whose factory is in Bendigo (two hours from Melbourne). It makes sense to establish a statement showroom in central Melbourne to be physically closer to industry groups, other manufacturers and architectural collaborators. When Woods Bagot was invited to a design competition for the new showroom, the team threw caution to the wind and really got creative in their design response. They determined the space would be a testament to Sculptform’s expertise, design passion and craftsmanship philosophy.

Soui Flagship Store / HOFFICE

South Korea-based hoffice has created a small store in the basement for Soui. located in Seoul, where natural light and external air are blocked. The plan has been divided based on the floor grid by the walls, inducing functional solutions and spatial experiences. In this space, the walls surrounding the central space flexibly divide each area, creating a private shopping experience inside the wall, and a pure sense of space visually organized by displayed products outside (the central space). In addition, each wall is designed to guide the flow of traffic, giving visitors a primitive experience as if they were exploring a small cave.

Caritas Innovation and Quality-of-Life Social Center / TEKTUM

During the planning and execution process, our goals were the following: creating a functional building that satisfies all expectations; the building’s effect on people should positively serve the institution; by building this house the city will gain an urban, contemporary building; to sustain the investment with realistic, feasible cost-effective solutions. To achieve these goals we kept the existing building, rebuilt and extended it (thus hoping to keep Sütő András`s memory alive in the house). It was important for us to build in the neighbour partition walls.

The ‘De Nieuwe Molens’ building complex originally was a flour factory that came into production at the end of the 19th century. Since then, the building has changed significantly. The building volume was literally doubled. Silos were added and the building, where the grain was milled, was added.
