Shangzhuang in Haidian District, Beijing, was once the countryside estate and farmland of the Nalan family. The project aims to explore the architectural prototype of rural agricultural facilities and think about how to use materials to organize structures in a rational and effective way, naturally generating specific interest spaces. On a 400-square-meter field in the countryside, the architect decided to use a comprehensive spatial form to fulfill the integration of functional needs from the field to the table.

Budapest-based Paradigma Ariadné architecture studio was invited by the city of Sándorfalva to design a buffalo barn and an educational trail into their natural protected land that today is wholly covered with reeds. The initial aim of the development was to immigrate buffalos to the place.

To the south of the M40 motorway, in an industrial area that forms the background to the extension of Carabanchel neighborhood, a pharmaceutical company requires the extension of its facilities to centralize its logistic activity. The original building is an amalgam of volumes making up the corner of an industrial park, where the combination of elements has configured the brand identity. 

In Ancram, NY, two hours north of New York City, architecture and interior design firm BarlisWedlick salvaged and relocated a 19th-century barn from a nearby town and transformed it by painting it black with bold, red-framed windows for its new owner. The barn, built with Passive House principles, includes a loft with a fireman’s pole that leads to a studio apartment, a wood-burning stove, and a Tesla charging station. A highlight of the barn is a photovoltaic array built into the roof that provides power to multiple buildings on the property.

The typical open Dutch landscape in Spierdijk provided the inspiration for the design of this barn house. We wanted to give all rooms a nice view and draw the landscape inward.
