American International School of Guangzhou Science Park Campus / Perkins&Will

March 24, 2024 Pilar Caballero 0

The American International School of Guangzhou (AISG) has completed the reconstruction and expansion of its 42-year-old Science Park campus. Designed by Perkins&Will, the new campus is a forward-thinking interdisciplinary space that redefines the future of learning environments. Established in 1981 for the children of American diplomats, AISG was the first school of its kind in southern China and the oldest not-for-profit international school in Guangzhou. The reconstruction and expansion builds upon this legacy. The updated campus offers a variety of spaces that give students a choice in how, when, and where they learn, creating a world-class educational environment that supports different learning styles. “The Master Facilities Plan was intentionally designed with the future of learning in mind,” says AISG school director Kevin Baker. “A redevelopment project across both campuses, Science Park and Ersha Island will transform educational spaces into world-class learning environments.”

Extension of the National Swedish Museum of Technology, housing a visualization dome, a spherical space where visualization technology achieves an immersive audiovisual experience, along with a café and an exhibition hall. The building splices together museum functions around an unused courtyard, and though the dome function is tall, the addition is sensitive to the vaulted hall and lower buildings defining the courtyard today.

PAYZ House / Alors Studio

Les Blanches de Payzac is located in a tiny village in the south of Ardèche, where traditional construction still predominates. The existing house, originally built in 2007, contrasts with this vernacular architecture. Setting up in a privileged and isolated plot, the house weaves a close and strong relationship between nature and architecture. Voluntary facing the grand landscape, its oversized glass windows offer generous views towards olive trees, stone pines, and aromatic plants while its concrete facades remind rocks of the surroundings and the tradition of retaining dry stone walls that compose this beautiful and contrasted landscape.
