Dark Interiors With Stylish Sparks Of Interest

A dark decor scheme sets an intense mood, which lends itself well to a modern interior aesthetic. However, without sparks of interest, dark interiors fall flat. In these two inspirational homes, we see how stylish splashes emerge from the shadows of dark grey and black interiors to continually engage interest. Our first featured home is a modern apartment with an open layout. Lattice panels add bold texture and clear zoning to the living space and designer lighting installations make shapely interludes. Our second dark interior example is filled with luxe marble elements that build high-end appeal. Rich brown accents add heat to the cool black and grey backdrop.

In this dark grey living room, there are a plethora of stylish temptations to attract the eye from the shadows. Strong silhouettes are dotted at regular intervals throughout the open-plan layout to create a continuous thread of interest.

Lattice panelling surrounds a support column. The textured cladding converts a basic structural component into an inherent decorative element. The lattice framework is repeated in the open-plan kitchen arrangement, where it styles a unique extraction hood.

A large, modern bookcase is fused with lattice panels to make a light-permeable room divider between the living room and the hallway. A large area rug stretches a pale grey expanse across the dark living room, softening the experience.

A sleek floor lamp is teamed with a comfy lounge chair to make a reading area.

Modular sofa sections are broken apart to receive an arrangement of round coffee tables and a slender side table.

Modern artwork makes a focal point behind the assortment of tables.

Coffee table books, candles, and a large glass vase make up small, stylish centrepieces.

Two large and distinctive living room pendant lights descend upon the table grouping. These are the Formakami pendant by Jaime Hayón for &Tradition.

Heavy black Venetian blinds and dark grey drapes dress the large living room windows.

Walnut effect panels darkly texture the TV wall.

The formal dining area is wrapped by an L-shaped kitchen installation.

A contemporary linear pendant light hangs above the marble dining table. Modern dining chairs seat up to five people.

The fourth edge of the dining table has no seat allocated to it, which opens up the kitchen floor space.

A ceramic vase makes a simple dining table centrepiece.

The walnut kitchen design ties in with the wood-clad TV wall. A light grey stone backsplash defines the kitchen from its dark backdrop.

A single line of open kitchen shelving and an LED strip make an illuminated statement wall. The shelf light also provides helpful task lighting over the kitchen sink.

In this 110-square-metre apartment, a dark grey and black decor scheme is cut through with rich brown accents.

A plush brown lounge chair by the modern fireplace makes a cosy relaxation spot. Brown scatter cushions break up the grey sofa upholstery.

A decorative bowl places the brown accent onto a grey coffee table at the centre of the room.

The light grey coffee table is teamed with a black counterpart to make appealing contrast.

The modern fireplace flames across a long, linear hearth. Black marble panels rise behind it, creating a luxe statement wall.

In the open home entryway, flooring switches from grey-hued wood laminate to large-format grey tiles. A custom-cut full-length mirror adds light and a spacious feel to the compact area.

A textured stone dining table is matched by black stone cladding around the window reveal. Six modern dining chairs surround the black table with rich brown accents.

An oversized dining table pendant light makes a big statement.

In the black kitchen, wine glass display shelves are lined with LED strips to create a bright column of light.

Two black bar stools pull up at the kitchen peninsula to fashion a breakfast bar. A contemporary linear pendant light draws an electrifying feature overhead.

In the master suite, an upholstered bed is backed with a black marble headboard wall. A bedroom pendant light spotlights the natural vein in the stone.

A brown bedside table contrasts warmly with the black marble background. Modern artwork leads the brown accent colour around the room perimeter.

A full-length mirror makes a convenient dressing area at the foot of the bed. Indoor plants uplift the dark decor scheme.

A glass room partition divides the bedroom from a home workspace. A wooden desk and a black desk chair fit snugly into the narrow home office. Built-in cabinets and shelving make smart use of an awkward alcove.

In the bathroom, black storage units meld with black textured wall tiles. Muted yellow accents brighten the dark space without appearing jarring. Yellow towels are draped over a black towel ladder. A yellow vanity stool is teamed with a black dressing table.

Black shower fixtures are installed over a fitted bath.

A black toilet blends with the shadows of the room, though its square outline creates sharp highlights.

Smaller wall tiles build new texture around the bathroom vanity area. A backlit bathroom mirror highlights their 3D effect.

An adjustable wall light provides task lighting where most needed at the vanity table.

The guest bathroom has a lighter aesthetic. Black and white decor is combined to create sharp definition.

Bathroom furniture and sanitaryware are wall mounted to keep the floor area open and spacious.
