Green House / Circle Studio Architects

May 15, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

This project was an extension to an existing weatherboard house in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. Whilst the site was a considerable size, the client was after a modest solution that retained the large backyard and provided a warm private sanctuary to relax, unwind, and have a glass of wine.

Outside Inside Pavilion / Tohmestudio

<A grid has no beginning, center, or end, the grid speaks through its logic of an infinite extension in any direction, generating a capacity to give continuity to what has been built, acting as a structure capable of organizing both small and autonomous elements as well as large sets>. Through this excerpt from the thesis: SUPRA ORDEN, / GRID COMO ELEMENTAL SUPPORT by Iñaki Harostegui, the work OUTSIDE-INSIDE is argued mainly through this strategy, which responds to some of the current themes of contemporary architecture such as the indeterminacy of the inner and outer limits.

Ottawa Art Gallery Expansion / KPMB Architects

April 17, 2022 Paula Pintos 0

In Canada’s National Capital Region, the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) and University of Ottawa (uOttawa) Theatre form part of a 17,435 m2 renovation and expansion to transform Ottawa’s heritage Arts Court into a mixed-used development. Located across from the Rideau Canal, the OAG builds on the legacy of a long institutional history as a destination for art in the city. In a city defined by heritage and brutalist-era architecture, the white cubist composition creates a striking contrast to its context of grey glass and masonry office towers. Two barrier-free entrances are linked, providing east-west pedestrian connectivity through the ground level. A signature destination restaurant and café, open to the public daily and in evenings, has further activates the revitalization of the precinct.

ER House / Jobim Carlevaro Arquitetos

April 13, 2022 Susanna Moreira 0

The ER house is a renovation and expansion project for the upper floor of an existing house, which previously had only a suite and a small office. The project was based on the creation of two extra suites, a small deposit, and the remodeling of the existing office. With that in mind, the adaptation of the facade respected the original preexisting 2.5 m modulations designed by the architect Karin Engelhardt Rosa in the 90s.

Northcote Terrace / Lovell Burton Architecture

April 6, 2022 Hana Abdel 0

Northcote Terrace sought to re-imagine a tired single storey terrace house on a small allotment into a new home for a young family. The site is situated at the base of Rucker’s Hill and would previously have formed part of the MerrI Merri flood plain. The grain of European urbanisation was driven by industries such as slaughterhouses and brickworks, giving the immediate precinct a working-class character, this residual grain is still evident today. The site itself is characterised by its narrow width, its south facing orientation and the existing semi-detached brick Victorian Terrace. Due to its orientation and marginal setbacks, the internal spaces of the existing dwelling were dark, with no aspect or connection to external amenity.

Caritas Innovation and Quality-of-Life Social Center / TEKTUM

During the planning and execution process, our goals were the following: creating a functional building that satisfies all expectations; the building’s effect on people should positively serve the institution; by building this house the city will gain an urban, contemporary building; to sustain the investment with realistic, feasible cost-effective solutions. To achieve these goals we kept the existing building, rebuilt and extended it (thus hoping to keep Sütő András`s memory alive in the house). It was important for us to build in the neighbour partition walls.
