Haikou GAOXINGLI Insun Cinema / One Plus Partnership

November 7, 2024 Valeria Silva 0

Haikou is an island in China, it’s situated on the north coast of Hainan Island, and the South China Sea is around the island. We wanted to create something related to the ocean because Haikou is surrounded by the ocean, but we wanted to create something unique and we didn’t want to use the color blue like the ocean, so we decided to use the brick material for the theme of our design. Because bricks are made of sand which lay on the beach. Looking at this, you can perfectly build a story in your mind. This is timeless, just as bricks can be used to create beautiful and durable spaces that can’t be worn down and improved as they blow out their birthday cake.

Cinemateket / SAAHA AS

Cinemateket in Oslo is a movie theatre for classic and alternative contemporary films. The design of Cinemateket is a tribute to the good old-fashioned cinema experience, while at the same time acknowledging the movie theatre setting within a robust 1940s concrete warehouse. The material palette of oak timber, powder-coated aluminum, and glass, creates a visual dialogue with the exposed rough concrete construction of the old building. The project’s ambition is to bring back the feeling of expectation when you are going out to watch a movie.

Open-Air Cinema Prachatice / Mimosa architects

Through a complete reconstruction, the dilapidated former open-air cinema with a huge capacity of 800 seats, was transformed into a functioning complex with a more sustainable capacity of 350. The shrinking of the grounds also allowed the creation of much-needed buffer areas between residential buildings and the cinema grounds, with the implementation of acoustic measures, and lastly the creation of a new connection between the surrounding residential complex and the nearby town center via Štěpánka’s Park.

The Lexi Cinema & Lexi Hub / RISE Design Studio

August 5, 2022 Andreas Luco 0

RISE Design Studio has completed the refurbishment and extension of London’s only social enterprise cinema, The Lexi, in Kensal Rise. A treasured asset within the local community, The Lexi Cinema tasked RISE Design Studio with revitalizing a 99-square meter parcel of vacant land in the rear car park of the existing Edwardian gabled brick theatre. Used as a makeshift bar by locals, RISE Design Studio and The Lexi team consulted Brent Council who advised the initial concept, a formal beer garden, would not be possible due to noise constraints but an enclosed second screen might be feasible.

Curzon Camden Cinema / Takero Shimazaki Architects

Camden’s new cinema represents the adaptation and renewal of the once industrial infill lining its viaducts. The ambition for our second Curzon location sought to retain as much of the landlord’s pre-existing shell as possible, re-purposing the building fabric installed as part of the larger Hawley Wharf regeneration. Working with the inherited materials, we inserted new architectural elements with their own language which now define the public spaces of the cinema.

One of Berlin’s oldest cinemas shines again. With their signature sensitivity towards existing spaces, Batek Architekten has brought new allure to the foyer and two smaller auditoriums of the Passage cinema through a series of precise interventions. This has allowed the historic aura of the hundred-year-old building in Neukölln to unfold in new ways yet simultaneously fulfill the functional and aesthetic requirements for a visit to a contemporary cinema.

Beta Cinema / Module K

July 27, 2021 Valeria Silva 0

Bold colours, strong geometric shapes and a ‘flashback’ to the famous buildings of old Saigon come into focus in a new cinema design in HCMC. Vietnamese interiors company Module K has completed their first cinema. Located on the ground floor of an existing shopping mall, the 2000 m2 cinema for Beta Media seats 1000 and is aimed at millennials with its Saigon vibe and architectural vocabulary. Each detail of the design references significant Saigon landmarks dotted around the city: the Municipal Opera House, Ben Thanh Market, Central Post Office, Tan Dinh Church, Paris Commune Square and the small alleys.
